After the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and in the path of Hurricane Irma, do you know if you are covered if something like this happened to you?
My husband and I were approved by our employers to go to Rockport, Texas last week and help with cleanup after Hurricane Harvey hit. Just getting to this area was difficult with high water and power lines down as well as fuel being difficult to find. Once arriving, it was heartbreaking to see the destruction. Houses and businesses destroyed or partially destroyed and without water and power. We saw so many places where the electrical poles weren’t just lying on the ground but were completely gone! Many metal towers (Cell phone, TV, Electrical) were also on the ground.
During this time of crisis, it was inspiring to see so many organizations / businesses / individuals giving away water, food, shelter, etc. It was astounding to see strangers helping strangers and Neighbors helping neighbors!!
It is imperative to review your current Homeowner Policy and/or Business Owner Policy to understand what coverages and exclusions exist. Flood is excluded under the normal Homeowner/Business Owner policy. Similar water exclusions may apply due to groundwater seepage and drain/sewage/water backup. If you reside/operate a business in an area that possibly floods then knowing if you have flood insurance is key. Call BrookStone Insurance Group and let us review your coverages. 214-301-3333.
